Its not like sometimes they want to do more for Joe and sometimes they want to do more for Scanlon its just how things happen in the imaginative process of the writers. WEBER: Everything that could possibly happen to this woman has happened. Id always wanted to check it [directing] out and see what it was like, says the actress. I have a [real-life] family now. I didnt feel like anyone was really exploring a healthy marriage and family life on TV, so thats crucial for me and I become concerned whenever I feel that that might be kind of waning.. The writers do a terrific job of keeping things interesting for an actor to play and giving us new territory to explore, says Arquette. Hes a funny guy and he likes to improv, which I like to do. She was harshly disabused of that idea when, at the age of five or six, a teacher told her that she couldnt take communion because your mother is Jewish and shes going to hell. When we started, the Ariel character [Sofia Vassilieva] was a little girl, and now shes a young woman.
